SECTION 1 COMPLIANCE WITH THE CODE OF ETHICS

Each member, upon signing an application for membership or renewal of membership of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of SA Inc shall, in addition to agreeing to be bound by the Constitution and Rules of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of SA Inc, be also bound by the Code of Ethics of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of SA Inc, relating to responsible Cavalier King Charles Spaniel ownership, including the keeping, welfare, breeding and disposing of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by members to the effect of the terms and conditions set out under Section 2 hereof.

SECTION 2 CODE OF ETHICS AND UNDERTAKING

 In consideration of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of SA Inc accepting my membership and approval of that renewal from time to time, I pledge to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of SA Inc that:

1. I shall ensure that at all times all Cavalier King Charles Spaniels under my control are properly housed, fed and watered, receive proper Veterinary attention if and when required and are vaccinated regularly.
   
   
2. I shall not allow any Cavalier King Charles Spaniels under my care to roam at large and when away from home, shall ensure that they are kept fully leashed or under effective control.
   
   
3. 1. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the standard of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and not for the pet market or any other
   commercial purpose.
   
   2. I shall discourage “puppy factories” and any indiscriminate breeding of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
   
   3. I shall endeavour to be alert for and work to correct any faults and inherited problems which may occur in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from time to time
   .
4. I shall not breed from any bitch kept by me before it is approximately 15 months old or before its third season, (whichever is earliest) and thereafter not more than once in each succeeding period of twelve months, providing, however, that should it be necessary, through extenuating circumstances, to breed from a bitch twice within twelve months, I shall rest the bitch on the third season.
   
   
5. I shall not permit any of my Cavalier King Charles spaniels to be mated to a dog of a different bred, to a cross bred dog, or to an unregistered Cavalier.
   
   
6. 1. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy until it has been completely weaned and not before it is 8 weeks of age, thus
   allowing for vaccinations to be given at 6 weeks of age.
   
   2. I shall ensure that all puppies bred by me are adequately vaccinated and wormed at the appropriate times.
   
   
7. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring Cavalier King Charles Spaniels from me:
   a) have securely fenced homes
   b) clearly understand and are willing and able to carry out their responsibilities for the care and welfare of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
   c) have the time, facilities and resources to perform their obligations.
   
   
8. I shall provide all purchasers of or receivers of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels placed by me with written details of all dietary requirements and immunization requirements and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements and responsible dog ownership.
   
   
9. I shall not sell any Cavalier King Charles Spaniels to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly allow a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind, or sell or donate any Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to be auctioned or raffled.
   
   
10. 1. I shall ensure when selling or transferring a registered Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to another person that Documents as required by the
    South Australian Canine Association, or the controlling body in my state or area, will be provided to the purchaser of transferee.
    
    2. I shall enter into a WRITTEN agreement with the purchaser or transferee of any Cavalier King Charles Spaniel sold or transferred by me if that Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is:
    a) not to be shown or bred from
    b) subject to any breeding terms and/or conditions
    c) to be used only for obedience and/or trialling purposes
    d) subject to any other terms or conditions.
    
    Any such agreement shall be duplicated. Both parties shall sign and date both copies of the agreement, and each party shall retain one copy of the agreement.
    
    
11. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
    
    
12. 1. I shall undertake to extend at all times, to fellow club members and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owners, the upper-most level of
    goodwill, decency, sportsmanship and fair play.
    
    2. I shall encourage all club members to improve their knowledge of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel by studying the breed standard and breed publications.
    
    
13. I shall undertake to support the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of SA Inc’s Welfare and Rescue Service and shall endeavour to find suitable homes for any Cavalier King Charles Spaniels which come to my attention which are lost, abandoned, unwanted or unable to be kept by their owners.

SECTION 3

Any member failing to observe the Code of Ethics may be dealt with under the Constitution and Rules of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of SA Inc.
